Electronic music is hard-wired into my brain. From the Star Trek theme in childhood and Kraftwerk-fueled cram sessions in college to this month’s obsession with the work of Flying Lotus, Matmos and DJ Spooky, I’ve always had a hungry science-fiction ear. Never could play, though. Banged on a hapless succession of guitars, noodled with a couple electronic keyboards and a variety of percussion instruments. Built a xylophone (and a XyloVan but until the advent of multimedia computers I couldn’t afford or even understand synthesizers. Then I got this cheap little program and a box or two and started messing around.
